Historic Houses of Ireland is delighted to champion the Heritage Open Doors initiative as part of National Heritage Week 2025.

Heritage Open Doors is a special initiative within National Heritage Week, offering the public a rare opportunity to explore historic buildings that are typically closed to visitors.

Taking place on August 16th and 17th, Heritage Open Doors reflects our belief that heritage should be shared, experienced, and celebrated by all. It offers the public a rare opportunity to step inside some of Ireland’s most remarkable privately-owned historic homes—many of which are usually closed to visitors. From grand castles to modest country houses, our members will open their doors to share the hidden and not-so-hidden stories of Ireland’s built heritage. Our thanks to the long list of members who have so enthusiastically embraced opening this weekend.

This special weekend reflects our deep commitment to making heritage accessible, engaging, and celebrated by all. Visitors will enjoy guided tours, exhibitions, and interactive experiences, offering a unique chance to explore architectural treasures, personal collections, and centuries of history.

Whether preserved by generations of the same family or lovingly restored by new custodians, these homes are living testaments to Ireland’s rich cultural legacy. Through Heritage Open Doors, we invite communities to reconnect with the spaces that have shaped our shared past—and continue to inspire our future.
