HHI-Craicly Stories Tour

BOOK NOW

Historic Houses of Ireland (HHI) is collaborating with Craicly Stories in 2025 with a series of storytelling events hosted by member properties.

The events within these homes will celebrate not just layers of stories of the house, but importantly the area, the county, the townlands and the people within them. The Big House in Ireland is of great significance, and this tour looks forward to blending these social histories through fun, celebratory storytelling evenings.

Ireland is a country of great and fascinating architectural and social history. Historic Houses of Ireland's mission is to both safeguard and promote the culture and heritage from these properties.

It has a large and rapidly-growing portfolio of houses and is working energetically on celebrating and developing the community relationships with these properties. With a whole rebirth in recent years of new historic house owners in addition to those who have been custodians of their homes for generations, the stories are growing and growing, making this tour a wonderful way to open the door on that to new guests.

The events last approximately three hours and include a slight supper and glass of wine.

“We are delighted to be collaborating with CRAICLY this year! We see a great match here in our cultural and social focus and the Irish heritage of storytelling is absorbed within the walls of these properties! What a lovely way to enjoy them.”

Justin Green, Chairman Historic Houses of Ireland

“HHI are doing such important work in representing these wonderful architectural gems in Ireland, and seeing the community's affection and involvement in them growing is a brilliant addition for all of Ireland.  CRAICLY is delighted to be involved!“

Jane Gormley, CRAICLY founder.

HHI-Craicly Stories Summer Series 2025

After Stradbally Hall (Laois) and Whitestown House (Dublin) in spring, Ballyvolane House in Co. Cork is hosting the first in the HHI & Craicly Stories Summer Series. Fittingly for a house nestled deep in the heart of the Blackwater Valley, the evening is a joyful celebration of the Irish Salmon, its place in our folklore, heritage, food culture and angling story.

There will be tales, tall and otherwise, from Ballyvolane owner, HHI chairman and lifelong fisherman, Justin Green, angler and guide Conor Arnold (Arnold Angling Centre), Frank Hederman of the uniquely traditional Hedermans Smokehouse, and Michael Fawl who spent his Inland Fisheries career protecting the salmon's homeplace. There'll be lots of input from Craicly's own Jane Gormley and the audience too, of course.

Expect an evening of curiosity, laughter, sharing, good wine and excellent food in the sumptous surrounds of one of County Cork's most beautiful houses.

Generously supported by Sherry Fitzgerald Country Homes.

Tickets are on sale now! Please book early to avoid disappointment
